Hampshire based mast, antenna and RF communications equipment manufacturer SMC Group is the latest company to join the Royal Signals Institution.
SMC Group’s Head of Communications, Peter Lisney, explained why supporting RSI was important to the Chandlers Ford business. He said,
“Right now, our masts and antennas are being used by the British Army but very few people have heard of SMC Group. This is because our products are often bought as part of a larger programme through a prime contractor.
“We want to short circuit that relationship between soldiers in the field who use our products and our experts who design and manufacture them. A closer relationship with the Royal Signals Corps means we won’t just work to a product spec, we’ll know the people who’ll actually use our kit and why our pursuit of excellence can ultimately save lives.”
SMC Group has manufacturing sites in Chandlers Ford near Southampton and in Florida, USA. Customers include armed forces, emergency services and governments globally. Products include vehicle roof or side mounted masts and trailer mounted masts with a version that can extend up to 30.9m with a 40kg headload. Antennas popular with military customers are the Portable Dipole Antenna, the ‘Wolf’ Broadband NVIS Antenna and whip antennas. Technical data can be viewed at SMCGroupGlobal.com.
