Location: Flexible/Remote, with occasional travel to HQ (Blandford) or events (various)
Contract Type: Part-time (three days per week)
Reports To: Director, Royal Signals Institution

The Role

The RSI is looking for a dynamic Communications, Marketing and Commercial Lead to spearhead its growth. Working closely with the RSI Director and supported by the Royal Signals Charity team, you will: Develop and deliver effective communication and marketing strategies, drive membership growth and enhance stakeholder engagement, identify and deliver commercial opportunities for sustainable income.

This is an opportunity for a proactive and creative individual to strengthen RSI’s financial foundation while positioning it as a leader in Defence professional dialogue and innovation.

 

Key Responsibilities are …

 

  1. Communications Strategy.
    Develop and execute a cohesive communication strategy aligned with RSI goals.
    Create compelling content for digital platforms, publications, and events.
    Build relationships with media and Defence stakeholders to elevate RSI’s profile.

  2. Marketing and Membership Growth.
    Design campaigns to attract and retain members.
    Use data analytics to refine strategies and monitor results.
    Develop tailored value propositions for Defence, industry (corporate membership), and academia.

  3. Commercial Development
    Identify sponsorship and partnership opportunities for events and webinars.
    Explore revenue streams such as event ticket sales, advertising, and paid memberships.
    Engage corporate sponsors and strategic partners to achieve income targets.

  4. Event Promotion and Engagement
    Support RSI events, ensuring strong attendance and sponsorship.
    Represent RSI at key industry and academic events to expand networks.

 

    5. Digital Transformation

        Manage and optimise RSI’s website and digital channels.
        Drive digital innovation to enhance the institution’s presence and capabilities.

 

What We’re Looking For …

 

Essential:

  • Proven experience in a commercial or business development role, with expertise in communications and marketing.
  • A track record of securing sponsorships or partnerships.
  • Strong relationship management, negotiation, and campaign management skills.
  • Proficiency in digital tools, customer relationship management systems, and social media.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with Defence, communications, or technology sectors.
  • Knowledge of the Royal Corps of Signals or military institutions.
  • Experience in membership-based or not-for-profit organisations.
