OBITUARY
Late last year we lost our long term member and Chairman Geoff Gardiner
Geoff was born on 7 June1939 and died after a long battle with ill health in September last year during the Covid lockdown.
Geoff was born and raised in Peterborough and lived there apart from 2 years as a National Serviceman in the R Signals mainly stationed in Germany with Air Formation at RAF Laarbruch after Basic Training.
He had to complete his apprenticeship with GPO until he was required to do his military service. He then returned to the GPO/BT for his civilian career where he retired in management.
Geoff joined the Peterborough Branch RSA in the early 21st Century and eventually took over as Chairman and helped to change the Branch to a more outgoing and energetic association. He reorganised Branch meetings to the 2nd Friday of a month. He also saw the value in members getting together for an evening meal before the Branch meetings. We now meet at 6pm for those who wish to dine and socialise before the Branch meeting at 7.30 pm,
Geoff with his wife (Margaret) organised the Major Branch Functions, A once quite drab affair, they reorganised The Christmas Dinner into an exciting and very well attended evening. He was also the host when the Branch were annually invited to their BBQ at their Chalet at Orton Mere.
Geoff was a very kind and respected member of this Branch and he will be much missed by those who knew him. Thank you Geoff RIP
