It was a night. Oh was a night it was it really was such a night.You could make a song out of that.
I am referring to the dinner held at the Peterborough Milton Golf club on June 24th.Each of the attendees had a personal welcome and menu card outlining the programme for the evening and a chance to "sell" the association to those non members attending. Part of the card read "The Peterborough Branch meet regularly once a month at the Gordon Arms, Oundle Rd in Peterborough normally the second Friday in the month a little before 1800hrs for food, followed by a meeting at 1930hrs. Our branch covers the Peterborough post code, extending out to Skegness, Hunstanton and The Wash. If you are not already a member and would like to come along, contact us, we will gladly arrange to meet you and introduce you to all the branch members. The entertainment for the evening was a fine musical programme provided by Billy Keys and then of course the inevitable John Hill quiz. As the outgoing President, John Hill thanked all the committee for the hard work in keeping the Branch afloat during these trying times with a special thank you to Margaret Gardiner and her team for organising the evening. There was a special thank you too for our current Standard bearers Jane Crowe and the new secretary and standard bearer Chris Williams.The toasts were given by the new President Michael Court and included not only a toast to the king but also all stood and sang the National Anthem.
The invitation went out to our Peterborough colleagues of the Suffolk Regt, the Cambridgeshire Regt plus our friends in REME, RASC, RAF and members from other Branches. The food was excellent, the service superb and all in all, it was a night, oh what a night it was it really was such a night.
We are looking forward to our next dinner in the same venue in November.
