I thought you would all like to know that the funeral of Barry Vargas took place yesterday. (February 27th 2023) The crem' at Kettering was packed and there were even some standing at the back. It was a very simple service but an excellent eulogy with emphasis on Barry's time in the corps.. Barry's coffin was covered in the Corps flag, thanks to Peterborough branch of the RSA. Bedford Branch provided the Standard and there were at least six of use in corps blazers who took the salute as the coffin was removed from the hearse.
We were looked after the service at a wake in one of the pubs Barry frequented which was also packed. I had the opportunity to talk to Barry's family in particular his two sons and they gave us a further insight into his army career and after that with the foreign office. It was clear that Barry was very well thought of in his local community and hopefully his son we be joining us at this year's reunion. RIP Barry.
