The 11th May marks the 228th anniversary of the date in 1797 when HM King George III authorised Sir Christopher Baynes to establish the formation of a Yeomanry Cavalry unit in Uxbridge.
It retained its cavalry role until it was re-tasked as Cavalry Signals on the 20th May 1920 and subsequently became one of the founding formations of the Corps of Signals on the 20th June 1920. Six weeks later the Corps received its Royal Warrant to become the Royal Corps of Signals.
Two of the three Victoria Crosses claimed by the Corps, through the heritage of its aligned units, were awarded to Lt Col OCS Watson and Major AM Lafone both of the Middlesex Yeomanry.
