On 10th October, LCpl Henry Griffey of 39 Signal Regiment took on the Lisbon Marathon in support of The Royal Signals Charity. It came ten years after his last marathon, The Great Wall of China Marathon.
The Royal Signals has shaped Henry’s life during his time in the Army reserves. He has seen the difference the Charity makes to serving and retired personnel and their families and wanted to give something back.
Henry trained around a busy job at the University of Bristol, a baby boy just over a year old as well as a Signals expedition to the Atlas mountains in September. A few days before the race Henry developed a temperature of almost 40 degrees as well as a suspected chest infection. Henry was unsure if he was going to be able to take part in the race and made the decision on the day of his flight. Henry slowed his pace and managed to finish the race in 5 hours 12 minutes, in the sunshine and feeling positive.
A big thank you for his effort and dedication especially when feeling unwell. Henry has so far managed to raise £265, his go fund me link is still live so if you wish to donate, please follow the link:

We would also like to thank Henry’s family for supporting him. Henry plans to stay on top of his training and is hoping to take part in the Bristol Half Marathon and the Bath 10K next year, in March and May respectively.
