The proliferation of digital processing and communications technology presents a challenge to military affairs, both in the development and countering of such technologies. Recent operations demonstrate the importance of considering the cyber and electromagnetic domain as part of a broader multi-domain operation.
The UK MOD’s joint doctrine defines Cyber Electromagnetic Activities (CEMA) as “The synchronisation and coordination of offensive, defensive, inform and enabling activities, across the electromagnetic environment and cyberspace”. The use of “and” implies a distinct separation between the electromagnetic and cyber battlespaces.
On Thu 24 Nov 22 at PMH Blandford (1800-1900), Dr Dan Clarke will consider the relationship between operations in cyberspace and operations in electromagnetic space with a focus on technical activities, effects on capability and operational outcomes, and the research which will influence future electronic warfare.
