UK Government to test life-saving public Emergency Alerts

On Sunday 23 April 2023 at 1500 hrs there will be a national test of the UK Emergency Alerts Service.

The UK government’s new Emergency Alerts system gives the government or emergency services the capability to warn people directly via mobile phones when lives are in   immediate danger, such as due to severe flooding. In future, alerts can be sent from local phone masts to specific areas where there is a risk to life.

Your mobile phone or tablet may:

  • make a loud siren-like sound, even if it’s set on silent
  • vibrate
  • read out the alert

The sound and vibration will last for about 10 seconds.  An alert will include a phone number or a link to the GOV.UK website for more information.
