Royal Signals plan a ‘Treemendous’ Christmas

On 3rd December, troops from the Royal Signals planted 100 ash trees at Double Henges, near Tidworth Garrison in Wiltshire. The event, known as Treemendous 100, marks not just National Tree Week, but also creates a lasting reminder of the Royal Signals’ 100th birthday that they celebrated earlier this year.
The idea to support the Government’s Woodland Carbon Guarantee Scheme to plant 11m trees by 2022 was formulated when the majority of physical Royal Signals 100 events had to be cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions. Originally planned to include local school children, businesses and environmental groups, lockdown forced the event to be scaled back but thanks to the determination and careful planning of event organiser WO1 Kerry Mills, Treemendous is going ahead.
‘This is a fantastic project for the Royal Signals and for Army,’ said WO1 Mills. ‘We are creating a copse that will be enjoyed by families for years to come, and contributing to the Government’s commitment to the environment.’
The copse will include a hand-carved tree trunk bench and the event will be marked with a laser-cut wood plinth made by WO1 Mills herself.
