· On 20-21 April, Soldiers from 30 Signal Regiment plan to push a Land Rover continuously for 24 hours to raise funds for the ABF and the Royal Signals Charity.
· This charity fundraiser hopes to inspire young soldiers to get involved with making a difference to charities.
· Originally planned for the Royal Signals centenary in 2020, it will demonstrate resilience, teamwork and the spirit of our soldiers.
A little later than planned, a group of soldiers from 30 Signal Regiment based in Nuneaton will undertake a charity challenge like no other: pushing a Land Rover continuously for 24 hours! Originally scheduled to be part of the Royal Signals centenary celebrations in 2020, the challenge aims to raise funds for the ABF, The Soldiers' Charity and the Royal Signals Charity.
The idea was conceived and organised by two soldiers, Cpl Howard Nelson and LCpl Liam Jackson. Cpl Nelson, originally from the Wirral, is a network engineer who has been in the Army for 19 years and has, during his career, deployed to Afghanistan, Jordan and the Falkland Islands. Cpl Jackson born and raised in Essex, joined the armed forces at the age of 20. During his 8 year career he has deployed to Afghanistan, America, Denmark as well as most of the UK. Cpl Jackson is looking to serve a full 22-year career.
Cpl Nelson said, ‘The idea of the event is to motivate my fellow soldiers, to bring them together and physically challenge them in a team environment whilst raising money for some great charities. Those taking part will be of every rank and I really feel will bring the Regiment together.’
They have set their sights high on raising £100,000 for the charities and really want to make this not only a Regimental event but a community one too.
