Congratulations to Recruit 'Sanjay' Shambhu of 93 (North Somerset Yeomanry) Support Squadron, 39th Signal Regiment - The Skinners who was recognised and awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) for his outstanding civilian work in the New Year Honours list, earlier this year. The annual awards mark the achievements and service of exceptional people from across the country.
Sanjay in his primary civilian employment works in Information Technology as a principal consultant and he is also a local councillor representing Charlton & Cribbs constituent ward on the South Gloucestershire unitary council since 2019. Sanjay is an ardent supporter of local residents, and he has taken hundreds of case work on issues in Charlton Hayes, Patchway and Cribbs Causeway, Filton Airfield, Northfield and Brabazon.
During the Covid outbreak, he founded Charlton & Cribbs Covid Support Group of over 100 volunteers that included community members and councillors. The group supported communities across South Gloucestershire and Bristol offering groceries, home calls and household support for people in need.
Sanjay has served as the chair of South Gloucestershire Council in the civic year 2022-2023.
As the chair of the council his official charity was to support SSAFA Bristol & South Gloucestershire.
SSAFA provide lifelong support to those who are serving or have served in the British Army, Royal Navy, Royal Marines or the Royal Air Force, and to their families.
Sanjay is chair of Conservative BAME (British Asian and minority ethnic) Forum, and has served as a governor of Charlton Wood Primary Academy.
