Royal Signals soldiers, recently returned from a tour of duty in Afghanistan, were on parade this week to receive their medals from GOC 3rd (UK) DIV, Maj Gen M R Elviss MBE. The troops, who all deployed with 3 (UK) Div Sig Regt, had been responsible for communications, IT and cyber in the headquarters of what is known as 'The Iron Division'. General Elviss took time to chat with the soldiers and listen to their experiences whilst on deployment.
Royal Signals soldiers provide the vital link to UK Defence operations worldwide, providing technical expertise in support of British, NATO and UN forces in many of the world's hotspots.
RSM Steel from 3 (UK) Div Sig Regt said, ‘Our soldiers are highly trained, highly professional and provide a service that can often go unnoticed. We are very proud of all our service personnel and their families that continue to support their loved-ones whilst on operations. It was a great afternoon, especially for those receiving medals and the sense of pride that we instil within the British Army, was evident for everyone there.’
