If you’ve got the drive to learn and want to move into tech, the opportunity is there. Sig O'Brien is proof of that.
Sig O'Brien originally served six years in the Royal Engineers as a specialist driver, deploying to the Falkland Islands and on Operation Trenton in South Sudan. Those experiences-built resilience and a mindset focused on getting the job done properly, whatever the conditions.
After leaving the Army, he spent three years as an HGV driver and two years in the scaffolding industry, gaining solid hands-on experience where teamwork and reliability were non-negotiable. With a growing interest in technology and long-term progression, he made the move back into the Armed Forces as a Network Engineer in the Royal Signals. He’s now working towards industry-recognised qualifications in IT, networking, and communications setting himself up with skills that will carry into his civilian life later on.
