With over 30 Royal Signals instructors, the Corps has a significant presence on the permanent staff cadre at the Initial Training Regiment (ITR) Pirbright. Responsible for introducing recruits to military life and developing the skills that will see them progress through their Army careers, being an instructor is a fascinating and rewarding experience and one that is rightly recognised as a pathway to promotion.
At any one time, there are usually around 120 Royal Signals recruits at Pirbright with our instructors involved in every step of their training from physical training (AAPTIs) all the way through to a Lieutenant Colonel. The biggest contingent is the 21 Section Commanders, all of Corporal rank, who spend a great deal of time training, mentoring and developing the recruits. Most soldiers never forget the influence this person has on them, and as an instructor it is a great opportunity to help reinvest in the future of the Corps.
With other permanent cadre roles available too at AFC Harrogate and ATR Winchester, there is something for everyone, and could lead on to other positions at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and even overseas training jobs.
