Happy Father’s Day to all those in the Corps juggling a career and family life.
Today, we are also thinking of all those dads that cannot be with their families and we just wanted to say a BIG thank you for all that you do.
Following in dad’s footsteps Major Jason Budding talks about his son James, who is currently seeking a career in the R SIGNALS. Here is what Maj Budding had to say about his son:
Being a service child brings its challenges and of course disruption to what some would deem as a normal childhood. For your child to find their own way and develop into a young adult is a different experience for each and every one of them. For my son James the Dorset Army Cadet Force gave him this focus and once in, nothing has stopped his passion for it. From his first nights under the stars on exercise, to his completion of the Duke of Edinburgh’s awards and successful progression up the promotion ladder, his success has made me so very proud.
As he approaches the end of his cadet force, he has achieved the highest of accolades by becoming the Dorset Cadet Regimental Sergeant Major. In order to recognise his achievement, HQ R SIGNALS very kindly presented a rosewood pace stick for him to treasure for ever more.
On Sunday 13 March 2022, HQ R SIGNALS afforded me the privilege of presenting him his pace stick and I took the opportunity with open arms. James was on parade for a Company weekend, and myself and Lt Col Mick Boyle (representing HQ R SIGNALS and the desk officer for cadet training) appeared by special invite from N Company Commander Capt Owen Wells and WO2 (CSM) Rob Morris. Lt Col Mick Boyle provided a few words and references to the history of the pace stick (RD community stand down, an ex-supervisor didn’t embarrass himself) and then handed over to myself for the presentation.
Following a fantastic two years at Kingston Maurward College, James is currently seeking to secure a place at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. I have watched him grow into a mature young man and couldn’t be more proud of his achievements to date. I have no doubt that he will continue to succeed and hopefully keep the Budding name in the R SIGNALS for many years to come. Well done Regimental Sergeant Major Budding, you did good!
