In the run up to Defence Cyber Marvel 2, 53 students from 6 UOTC’s recently took part in testing the range of infrastructure and team processes that have been developed for Defence Cyber Marvel 2, Europe’s largest Live-fire Cyber exercise, taking place next month in Tallinn, Estonia.
The weekend also allowed us to educate future leaders in cyber and give them an insight into how we train cyber skills within defence. The weekend did not disappoint with one Officer Cadet saying “skills were further developed throughout the weekend and all members have come away with valuable experience on Cyber Security, why it is important, and how these events will be run in the future.”
Located across the UK the students were put into six defensive teams who each had to defend their own networks, the DCM2 Red Team (acting as the enemy) used their skills to break into the students' networks and move laterally to gain access to the domain controllers. During the exercise the students worked to configure their network limiting the Red Teams ability to attack.
Capt Watkins, the Royal Signals recruitment officer and organiser of the weekend said ‘it gave all the students an interesting and practical experience of what they can expect if they join the Corps, opportunities like this are growing and Defence Cyber Marvel is the biggest and best Cyber exercise in the UK.’
Defence Cyber Marvel 2 takes place between the 10-19 Feb.
