The Royal Signals Corps Sports Awards are a great chance to recognise those people who go beyond their day job and provide sporting opportunities for others in the Corps. We can congratulate those who have excelled in their sport of choice and those who have made a massive contribution through organisation, coaching and refereeing.
The 2020/22 season awards were recently held in the ATOS HQ offices in London and celebrated not only those who took part in sport but also those involved in the #100for100 challenge which raised over £100,000 for the Royal Signals Charity. As the main organiser, Capt Jay Jennings was singled out for praise. Himself a very accomplished athlete, he encouraged over 2000 people to take part in the challenge. He said, 'It was an exceptional evening celebrating some of our very best Corps sporting talents and I am excited to see what the next 12 months has in store.’
Brigadier Phil Muir, the Corps Sports Chairman, said, ‘It was a fantastic evening hosted by ATOS celebrating the sporting achievements of our people. Thank you to our sponsors and those making donations to the Royal Signals Charity for creating the opportunities that allow our sports people to realise their dreams.’
The list of winners is below, every one of them a worthy winner. Capt Zoe Andrew won Sportsperson of the Year for her exceptional achievements in equestrian arena and said, ‘To win the Royal Signals Sportsperson of the Year was a complete surprise, especially given the outstanding talent that has been demonstrated across the Corps in such a wide variety of sports. I would like to thank all those who have allowed me to be successful over the years, especially the Corps Games committee, the Royal Signals Charity for funding me and my chain of command for releasing me to continue to compete.’
