The Lanyard Trophy 2026 tested competitors to the full this year. Unpredictable weather - snow, hail, and bursts of sunshine - ensured there was no let-up from start to finish, making for a genuinely demanding day on the hills.
Now in its 47th year, the Lanyard Trophy remains one of the Royal Corps of Signals' most prestigious endurance events. First inaugurated in 1979 by Peter Richards of 216 (Parachute) Signal Squadron, the competition requires teams to complete a 40-mile endurance march carrying 30-40 lbs of weight - a test of physical fitness, mental resilience, and sheer determination.
This year's event was organised and delivered by 216 (Para) Sig Sqn at Warcop. With 37 teams on the start line, the standard of competition was high across every category.
Well done to every competitor who took part, the Lanyard Trophy is a true Corps tradition, and for those taking part for the first time, we hope it will not be your last.
