The Army v Navy match committee will not be releasing tickets for sale until early 2022. Twickenham Stadium has now held its first full capacity match, since the Covid-19 pandemic started, in November 2021. The Royal Corps of Signals match committee will now work with the ARU and RFU to ensure that the 2022 match can be enjoyed by as many spectators as possible.
In April the Army v Navy Match day committee announced the fixture date for the Army v Navy Match as Saturday 30 April 2022. The day will include the 103rd Army v Navy Match for the men and the 18th Army v Navy Match for the women. It will be the first time both matches have been hosted at the Rugby Football Union's Twickenham Stadium.
Since the April announcement there has been considerable work behind the scenes to ensure that the match remains and retains its unique place and character in the sporting calendar. On the field rugby has resumed for both the Army and Royal Navy Rugby Unions. Both have enjoyed success with their representative VIIs programme alongside the re-emergence of unit rugby whether in the UK or deployed. Whilst this has been great to see much of the activity behind a successful Army v Navy match occurs off the field and some change has been necessary. The first change, and purpose of this update, is that tickets were not released for sale pre-Christmas as has traditionally been the case. The committee hopes that the tickets will be available to purchase early in 2022 and we expect a window to open for three weeks in February. This will be confirmed through further updates on this website and the social media accounts.
Why the delay?
In June and July Twickenham Stadium hosted 10,000 spectators for the Premiership Final and England's two summer test matches. It is planned that the Army v Navy Match will again be played in front of a capacity stadium of over 80,000 supporters. The Government has recently conducted trials into larger crowds in stadiums, with Wembley being at two thirds capacity for the European football final. Following Government announcements on 14 December 2021, It is anticipated that the introduction of new Covid-19 passports and strict rules on vaccinations will be applied to this event. In January 2022 the match day committee will conduct detailed planning for the event to agree final requirements for the Army v Navy Match ticketing, and pricing structures will be finalised and announced shortly thereafter. Note that Royal Signals Rugby Union will only sell wristbands for the "Corps Bar" with a matchday ticket, tickets and wristbands will not be sold separately.
