Held annually in the rugged terrain of the Brecon Beacons, Cambrian Patrol is a mission-focused, scenario-based exercise that challenges military personnel from around the world. This year’s event, running from 3–12 October 2025, saw 122 teams from 32 nations take part, including regular, reserve, university, and international units.
Teams of eight soldiers were tasked with navigating over 60 km of mountainous terrain in under 48 hours, while carrying up to 32 kg of kit per person. Along the way, they faced a series of demanding military tasks including:
- Reconnaissance and intelligence gathering
- Minefield clearance
- Casualty evacuation
- Chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) threat response
- Close-target reconnaissance and prisoner handling
- Water crossings and tactical assaults.
The exercise is not a competition in the traditional sense, but patrols are assessed on their performance and awarded one of four distinctions: Gold, Silver, Bronze, or Certificate of Completion. Earning a Gold Medal signifies exceptional performance across all criteria, including leadership, teamwork, endurance, and tactical acumen.
Despite harsh weather conditions and extreme physical demands, the team from 16 Signal Regiment demonstrated resilience, professionalism, and excellence, standing out among a global field of elite military units.
This achievement reflects not only their skill and preparation but also their commitment to representing the British Army at the highest level.
