Regiments from 7 Sig Group recently took part in a Brigade Operational Shooting Competition (OSC), held at Whittington Rifle Range from the 7 – 10 Mar 22.
The competition saw members from 1 Signal Regiment, 3SR, 15SR, 16SR and 37SR compete and produce some fantastic results. The competition was arduous but rewarding, showing incredible talent and teamwork from all teams. The winning team was 2Lt Fowler’s team from 16SR, who will now go through to the next stage of the OSC, competing against the best teams in the ARRC.
It’s also worth mentioning the incredible effort from 10SR, who performed exceptionally. 2Lt Annabelle Fowler’s (230 Sig Sqn) firing team members from 16SR consisted of Cpl L Thapa (2iC), Sgt Bir, LCpl Ayush and LCpl Sajan of 247 Sig Sqn, LCpl Eaton, Sig Haigh and Sig Bayne of Sp Sqn.
This competition is a chance for every soldier to demonstrate a well-rounded character: every single person that competes does not simply have to be ‘a good shot’. At the very least, they need a decent level of fitness to sprint (with full kit and weapon) from one firing point to another, try and maintain the coolness and presence of mind to concentrate on the shot and follow through. This is all whilst trying to remember the next practice, try to get their breath back and then run for the next one. That ability takes an inordinate amount of time to perfect, and the soldiers and officers that have taken the time to practice, learn from their mistakes, and move forward, should absolutely be recognised.
The next step for the team from 16SR is some more training before ARRC competition 23 – 27 May 22.
