The 10 Tors is the largest youth event in the UK, and arguably the most arduous. Dartmoor National Park provides a both beautiful and treacherous landscape for teams to trek either 35, 45 or 55 miles. This year the event took place on the 11-12 of May and saw 2400 participants take part.
Within this group of people is a selection of school and scout groups, but the predominant section is made up of cadets. For many of the soldiers and officers of 39 Signal Regiment their first look at military life was in their cadet units, many of whom also completed 10 Tors whilst in those units. That is why it is always a pleasure for the Regiment to be involved with the event.
For the event, 39 Signal Regiment provides the communications assets for the events ground-to-air capability, utilising our Land Rovers Fitted For Radio (LR FFR). The regiment also provides the crucial operators for communications coming from the Tors into the operations room and HQ. Without out this capability the event would not be able to run effectively.
Being up on Dartmoor is a fantastic opportunity to support all the competing teams. Particularly when you see all the support they receive from their family, friends and units. As a Regiment its great to look back a see where many of our members came from, and potentially where are new members will come from.
