There has been a lot in the press lately and particularly on social media with regard to the #NeverMoreNeeded campaign. As a charity, we felt we needed to explain our position on this…
For those of you who don’t know, #NeverMoreNeeded is a campaign which has started as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. Since the start of Coronavirus, people from all walks of life have struggled, whether that is financially or emotionally. Families have struggled to put food on the table, suffered from depression and loneliness; as well as loosing loved ones. Charities have had to step up to help support our communities through these challenging times. Obviously, that is what charities do, and we love being able to support one another. However, the restrictions which have been placed throughout the pandemic in order to help keep us safe, have affected the income streams for many charities. Fundraisers have been cancelled; donations no longer made, yet the demand for these services have increased dramatically. Many charities are struggling, and the concern is that many may not survive and be able to help their communities going forward.
Whilst the government has offered some support, many feel that more needs to be done. This pandemic is not over, and the challenges going forward will unfortunately not disappear overnight. Therefore, more support is required to ensure that these vital services, the backbone to many communities, can continue. This is why the #NeverMoreNeeded campaign has been launched.
The Royal Signals Charity, along with other regimental charities, are in a stronger position than some as our largest income stream is from the Service Day’s Pay Giving (direct from our serving soldiers). Unfortunately, though, this does not make us immune to the pandemic. The majority of our fundraising events (particularly in what was our Centenary year) have been cancelled. We are currently still able to fulfil our duties and thankfully have not had to turn down cases on financial grounds. However, we are also expecting the demand from our Corps family to increase over the coming months as the effects of COVID-19 continue to be felt. We must prepare and are planning ahead. Your continued support, as ever, is gratefully received and appreciated.
However, we know that a lot of our other service charities do not have the luxury of Service Day’s Pay Giving. We work closely in collaboration with a lot of others military charities; we all have the same goal. Therefore if one of us fails, it has a knock on effect on the whole system. We rely on SSAFA, and RBL whose caseworkers support out Corps family in getting the assistance they need. We also rely heavily on the ABF The Soldiers’ Charity and their support to our soldiers.
