On Wednesday, 28th May, AFC Bournemouth proudly opened the gates of the Vitality Stadium to host a truly memorable day for the Royal Signals community. As part of the club’s Cherries Together initiative, approximately 70 serving members and families from the Royal Corps of Signals were treated to an unforgettable experience — including a behind-the-scenes stadium tour and a coaching session on the very pitch where Premier League football is played.
The event was a resounding success, shining a spotlight on the collaborative power of sport, community, and charitable support.
Steve Cuss, Head of the AFC Bournemouth Community Sports Trust, expressed his enthusiasm about the day:
"We really enjoyed delivering the tour and coaching sessions, welcoming everyone to the Vitality Stadium.”
From walking through the players’ tunnel to kicking a ball on the turf, the day offered once-in-a-lifetime moments for many attendees. For Signaller Niav Fellows, the day was both meaningful and memorable:
“I thought it was a really good day and such a great thing to do for the Corps.”
The event was positive for members of Blandford Garrison and particularly our Phase 2 Soldiers. WO2 Scott Macdonald reflected on the impact of the day:
“It was really encouraging to see so many younger soldiers getting involved.”
Kirsty Green, Fundraising Manager for the Royal Signals Charity, highlighted the broader purpose of the day:
“It was such a great day for the serving members of the Corps as well as their families. I hope this just goes to show some of the work that goes on in the background — proving that the charity is always trying to go above and beyond for its members.”
